Key Texts: Phil. 1 & 2
Paul gives us a view of what sufferings looks like by divulging to the church of Philippi his current situation for the sake of the Gospel. He claimed that even the Roman world was convinced that his chains were in Christ. This is a pivotal lesson in our series on Freed to Love.
Many of the things Paul addresses do not fit well into our modern “Christ is in it for me” Christianity. It calls us out of ourselves into a life of complete abandonment to the cross of Christ. Somehow the modern church has lost its way. It’s moral moorings have been supplanted by winds of doctrine tickling itching ears. God warns us that this day was coming and we are now living it those days. His call to seek first His kingdom is a call we need to teach and remind ourselves of all the more frequently in our day than in the past.
Freedom to love is ultimately a freedom to spend yourself on King and kingdom.
